Dave & Buster’s is a world-renowned entertainment brand that delights guests with its innovative arcade games, sports watching environment, and craft food and beverage offerings. With over 145 unique locations, each store operates in a complex environment that includes full-service kitchens, dining rooms, gaming areas, audio visual effects, private event spaces, and more. Interested in reducing their energy spend.

Dave & Buster’s was seeking a low-cost solution that would not require heavy day-to-day support from its lean facility operations team. The team realized they needed better visibility into the performance and uptime of their existing HVAC units, and they wanted a simple way to remotely monitor, analyze and control energy use across their enterprise.

Finding cost-effective HVAC energy solutions

Management wanted to find a simple and cost-effective solution to reduce their HVAC energy spend and usage throughout their enterprise.

Balancing comfort in kitchen and guest areas

Each location featured a kitchen with heat-producing equipment as well as large open areas where guests expect cool comfort during hot summer months.

Lack of HVAC maintenance insight

Management wanted the ability to anticipate, prioritize, and budget for maintenance activities, but existing tools did not provide insight into the operational performance of HVAC equipment.

Need for remote HVAC monitoring

Without the ability to remotely monitor and control HVAC equipment, on-site staff were overriding corporate set-points. These actions resulted in excessive energy consumption and demand and delayed discovery of mechanical issues needing attention.

Optimized HVAC efficiency and reduced operational costs

To ensure they received all of the benefits of Swarm Logic across their enterprise, Dave & Buster’s had Encycle partner with their engineering firm to incorporate the cloud-based technology into the design specification of all new locations.

The facilities management team also gained access to valuable analytics on the performance of their HVAC systems, including early indications as to when units are not performing as expected. This information provides actionable insights for the team and its HVAC contractors to direct maintenance efforts where they will have the greatest impact, leading to reduced repair costs.

Further, the application of Swarm Logic has enabled Dave & Buster’s to participate in Demand Response programs.
