SAN MARCOS, Calif., October 17, 2022 – Encycle Corporation, a software technology company focused on holistically helping commercial and utility businesses dramatically improve the efficiency of their HVAC systems using IoT-enabled services – is pleased to announce that it plans to offer Encycle’s Swarm Logic® HVAC energy-saving technology to Massachusetts customers participating in the Existing Building Retrofit program. The program is part of Mass Save®, a collaborative of Massachusetts’ natural gas, electric utilities, and energy efficiency service providers, leading the state to a clean and energy-efficient future.
This adds to a growing number of utility programs across the country integrating Encycle’s Swarm Logic software, which works continuously and autonomously to deliver significant HVAC energy savings and emissions reductions. The technology can be deployed in two different ways:
- Through compatible smart thermostats – Known as Encycle’s SwarmStat™ offering, this approach is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). It delivers many of the same benefits of a building automation system (BAS) with the ease of use and cost-effectiveness of smart thermostats, which the customer must provide.
- Through existing building controls – Known as Encycle’s Swarm Service™, this deployment method is designed for enterprise-level businesses that typically have a BAS. The IoT-based approach requires no additional hardware installation; an internet connection from the BAS to the cloud is all that’s needed. The customer must provide the BAS.
Adding Swarm Logic to National Grid’s portfolio follows a dedicated assessment at multiple customer sites in 2022. The assessment demonstrated an average 21% reduction in HVAC electricity consumption for participating customers using Swarm Logic.
“Encycle is excited to bring our proven Swarm Logic technology to business customers looking for affordable and easy-to-implement energy-saving solutions,” said Steve Alexander, Encycle President and CEO. “Now more than ever, businesses facing high operational costs amid the threat of a recession are asking us, how quickly can Encycle help reduce our energy bills? We tell them they’ll be able to watch the savings add up almost immediately,” Alexander noted. “Working together with an energy company that’s committed to energy efficiency makes this partnership even more meaningful to everyone at Encycle, as sustainability is one of our core values,” added Alexander.
“National Grid is always looking for simple and convenient ways to help our business customers use energy more efficiently,” said Chris Porter, Director, Customer Energy Management, National Grid. “Businesses of all sizes are facing myriad economic challenges, and the importance of managing operational costs is increasingly top of mind for many of these customers. Encycle’s technology has shown to be a simple and straightforward way for business customers to save energy and reduce costs during a period of rising energy prices.”
“There are a lot of energy efficiency programs on the market that yield high success rates for large businesses, but serving SMBs has always been more challenging,” remarked Brad Rittler, Vice President, Channel Sales & Business Development at Encycle. “SwarmStat integrates seamlessly with several thermostat manufacturers’ product lines, providing a unique value proposition and adding a new suite of next-generation control and reporting capabilities,” Rittler commented.
Encycle developed Swarm Logic to significantly reduce customers’ energy usage and carbon emissions, helping meet corporate sustainability goals. The multi-patented technology dynamically synchronizes HVAC control decisions, enabling RTUs to operate most efficiently by responding in real time to changing conditions such as outdoor temperature and building occupancy levels. With Swarm Logic, RTUs become part of an IoT-based closed-loop system that coordinates RTU activity, balancing energy consumption more logically among the individual RTUs. This approach maximizes efficiency while maintaining desired building comfort levels.
Deployed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, Swarm Logic typically saves customers 10%-30% on HVAC-related energy consumption, costs, and emissions with results that have been independently reviewed and verified.
