Encycle’s Swarm Logic® software will be integrated into smart thermostats for SMB customers participating in the Duke Energy Small Business Energy Saver program. This program is managed by Lime Energy, and features several energy efficiency solutions designed to improve the bottom line for SMB customers. Adding Swarm Logic to the Small Business Energy Saver program follows an extensive evaluation, during which time Duke Energy customers achieved as much as 12% reductions in HVAC energy consumption.
Alex Castro, Lime Energy’s EVP Business Development, believes Swarm Logic was a natural evolution for the smart thermostat program that Lime Energy has in place for Duke Energy’s SMB customers to lower their heating and cooling costs. “Throughout our longstanding partnership, Duke Energy has encouraged Lime Energy to bring forward new ways to help their customers save energy,” Castro said. “We felt Swarm Logic was an attractive solution due to the combination of its savings performance and the simplicity of installation and operation,” explained Castro. “The initial sites that we deployed in 2020 confirmed that adding Swarm Logic’s performance and capabilities to the Small Business Energy Saver program will deliver substantial savings to Duke Energy customers,” Castro continued.
Robert Chiste, Encycle’s Chairman and CEO, stated, “Encycle is pleased to partner with Lime Energy to bring our innovative Swarm Logic technology to Duke Energy’s small business customers.” “Businesses often look to their utility providers for help in reducing energy consumption wherever possible. Swarm Logic is a highly adaptable solution that works seamlessly with smart thermostats. Our joint efforts will provide Duke Energy customers with a simple, yet powerful way to lower their energy bills,” Chiste concluded.
Encycle developed Swarm Logic to significantly reduce customers’ energy usage and carbon emissions, helping meet corporate sustainability targets. The multi-patented technology dynamically synchronizes HVAC rooftop units (RTU) control decisions, enabling RTUs to operate most efficiently by responding in real time to changing conditions such as outdoor temperature and building occupancy levels. With Swarm Logic, RTUs become part of an IoT-based closed-loop system that coordinates their activity and distributes energy consumption more logically among the individual RTUs. The enterprise-wide solution operates quietly in the background, requiring no human interaction to maintain or monitor its actions.
Deployed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, Swarm Logic typically saves customers 10%-30% on HVAC-related energy consumption, demand, and spend.
